Pikey Peak Trek, the most recommended trekking route by Sir Edmund Hillary, is a spectacular route nestled at 4065 meters (13,333 ft.) in lower part of the Everest Region in Nepal. This is one of the newly introduced and less crowded destinations. The Trek to Pikey Peak is famous for the breathtaking views of the eight-thousanders like Everest (8,848.86 m), Lhotse (8,516 m), Kanchenjunga (8,586 m), Makalu (8,463 m), etc. The view of sunrise and sunset over the giant peaks is so magical that it will become your lifetime memory.

The 10 Days trek starts from Dhap, an 8-hour drive from Kathmandu. The landscapes are fantastic too. Pikey Peak is a moderate trekking route in Nepal that passes through the lush green hills and terraced fields which add more color to the picture. Pikey Peak offers the perfect distance to witness the grand panorama of the Himalayas, providing clear views of additional peaks like Thamserku (6,608 m), Nuptse (7,861 m), Pumori (7,161 m), and Kangtega (6,782 m). You’ll be visiting the Thupten Choling monastery and a local school along the way. The locals are friendly and welcoming. There are waterfalls and beautiful suspension bridges you’ll find on the trail.
This trail ascends through remote mountain villages and dense forest of rhododendron & pine. You’ll also get a great opportunity to experience various castes and ethnic groups on the way. The region is rich in monuments such as stupas and colorful prayer flags. This Pikey Peak trek offers all-season visits – spring, autumn and winter.
Throughout the journey, the accommodation will be provided in teahouses or lodges among the locals and other fellow trekkers, which will immerse you in the trekking atmosphere and experience much of remote traditions. Unlike other Everest region treks, it trek offers spectacular view of giant mountains views without the risky Lukla flight. Pikey Peak also a budget-friendly trekking destination suitable for families and is considered Sir Edmund Hillary’s favorite viewpoint of Everest.

Why Trek Pikey Peak in Nepal?
Pikey Peak offers the best view of Everest, the highest mountain in the world, without the need for a technical climb or extreme altitude exposure. It serves as a short adventure and excellent acclimatization trek for those planning higher altitude adventures like EBC or Island Peak. During the trekking to Pikey Peak, trekkers can witness panoramic views of the mountain range from Kanchenjunga to the east and to Annapurna in the west.
Unlike other Everest region treks, Pikey Peak can be trekked even in winter months. Professional photographers and photography enthusiasts choose Pikey for its mesmerizing sunrise/sunset shots over Everest. No other viewpoint offers such clean and crystal-clear views of the mountain.
Pikey Peak remains one of Nepal’s hidden gems with fewer crowded trails at 4,065 meters altitude. Since this trek doesn’t require the risky Lukla flight, it’s also a budget-friendly option that can be seen as suitable for families visiting the Himalayas. This region has countless Buddhist monasteries, gumbas, prayer flags and stupas that provide opportunities for cutural and spiritual retreats. Many visitors describe Pikey Peak as a life-changing mindfulness experience in the Himalayas.
When is the best time to Trek to Pikey Peak?
Most people visit the Pikey Peak in autumn (September, October, and November) and spring (March, April, May). Although the route is considered less crowded compared to other Everest region routes, each season has its own unique character that provides the different experiences along the journey.
During the autumn season, temperature ranges from (9°C to 17°C) at day and (-2°C to 5°C) during Night. The weather is stable, and the environment is pleasant with clear skies and excellent visibility. Therefore it’s considered the best time of the year for Pikey Peak Trek because at that time the major festivals throughout Nepal are celebrated which gives you the cultural experience in local villages.
And at spring, temperature ranges from (10°C to 18°C) during day and (-2°C to 5°C) at Night. Plants transform as flowers begin to bloom and thus the forest becomes colorful with natural flowers blooming and the birdsong creates an incredible atmosphere that visitors will be pleased to explore. During these months, the weather is clear and the views are excellent. You’ll enjoy nature throughout the whole Pikey Peak Trek.
Monsoon is generally not recommended for Pikey Peak trek due to heavy rainfall, cloudy skies and poor visibility. Temperature ranges from (15°C to 22°C) during day and (8°C to 12°C) at night. The trails can become slippery and muddy which adds extra challenges to trekking and may not be considered safe. However, this season also offers equally competitive experiences for those seeking adventure and cultural immersion.
Hiking to Pikey Peak is possible year-round, while in winter temperature ranges from (5°C to 12°C) during day and (-5°C to -10°C) at night, provides favorable conditions to reach and experience snow-capped landscape and enjoying snow views around the Pikey Peak. That will be amazing to see the fullest form of mountains from the recommended best viewpoint.
