Annapurna has always been a favorite destination for trekkers. This region has everything to offer trekkers, which is why this trek is always epic. However, we see many people are not able to fulfill their desire to visit Annapurna and have to choose other destinations because of limited vacation time. That is why we have designed this Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek package for those who want to enjoy the beauty of Annapurna in less time while covering all the highlights.
Trek Difficulty
With an approximate distance of 110km/68 miles, the route to Annapurna Base Camp is a blend of challenges and rewards in terms of distance, duration, altitude, terrain, accommodation, and other factors. Our designed Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek covers the complete trek in 7 days, starting and ending in Pokhara, where every trekker must walk approximately 6 hours every day. Thus, good physical fitness is necessary for a better trek experience.
Best Time for Short ABC Trek
Our recommended seasons for this Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek are Spring and Autumn. During these times, the region is at its peak and can provide the fullest beauty it holds.
Spring (March to May) is one of the most popular times for ABC. The weather is stable, skies are mostly clear, and the forests are filled with rhododendron blooms, which turn the trails into colorful pathways.
Autumn (September to November) is considered the peak trekking season. The stable weather and clear skies with fresh air provide excellent visibility of the Annapurna range. This is also the festival season, with Dashain and Tihar vibes filling the atmosphere of the villages.
Winter and Summer are mostly avoided for safety and successful completion of the trek. Due to natural phenomena, these seasons bring challenges and difficulties such as avalanches, blocked trails, slippery paths, extreme cold, and heavy rainfall. Because of such reasons, the proper experience of the ABC trek gets ruined.
Even if you have to go during these seasons, then pack the proper gear and go with an experienced guide on this trail.

Hydration is equally important. Drink plenty of water throughout the trek, aiming for at least three liters daily. Dehydration can sneak up on you, especially at higher altitudes.
Pack appropriate gear to protect yourself from unpredictable weather conditions. Layering works best; it allows you to adjust clothing based on temperature changes during the day.
Know your limits and listen to your body. If you’re feeling unwell or exhausted, take rest days or turn back if necessary.
Keep emergency contacts accessible and inform friends or family about your itinerary before beginning on this adventure. It is always wise to plan for unforeseen circumstances while trekking through stunning landscapes.
Preparation
Make sure you are properly insured and take your insurance details with you, including emergency numbers. Share your insurance copy with your travel company.
While buying a travel insurance for Nepal, you must be sure about the insurance policy that covers the mountainous regions, rescue costs and evacuation, and other activities depending on your preferences.
Additionally, seeking guidance from local guides and understanding the risks involved are also important for a safe and enjoyable trek.
With the right mindset and preparation, the Annapurna Base Camp Trek can be both thrilling and safe. Respect the mountains, walk mindfully, and enjoy every step of the journey.
Frequently Asked Questions
The trek is considered moderate to challenging. With 110km of walking over 7 days and approximately 6 hours of trekking daily, good physical fitness is essential. The highest point is 4,130m at ABC, so some altitude acclimatization is required.
While previous trekking experience is helpful, it’s not mandatory. However, you should be in good physical condition and comfortable walking for 6+ hours daily on varied terrain including steep ascents and descents.
Spring (March-May) and Autumn (September-November) are ideal. Spring offers blooming rhododendrons, while autumn provides the clearest mountain views and stable weather. Winter and monsoon seasons are not recommended due to safety concerns.
You need two permits: the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and the TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) card. These are included in the package and will be arranged by your trekking company.
You’ll stay in teahouses or lodges along the trail. These are basic but comfortable, typically offering twin-sharing rooms with shared bathrooms. Blankets are provided, but bringing a sleeping bag is recommended for warmth.
Three meals daily are included (breakfast, lunch, dinner), plus two hot beverages and seasonal fruits. Menus typically include dal bhat (rice and lentils), noodles, pasta, and other local dishes. Vegetarian options are readily available.
Tipping is customary but not mandatory. A general guideline is $3-5 USD per day for guides and $2-3 USD per day for porters, though this depends on service quality and your satisfaction.
Essential items include: sturdy hiking boots, warm layers, rain gear, sun hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, personal medications, water purification tablets, and trekking poles. A detailed packing list will be provided upon booking.
Yes, as you reach 4,130m at ABC. The itinerary includes gradual ascent to help acclimatization. Stay hydrated, ascend slowly, and inform your guide immediately if you experience severe headaches, nausea, or breathing difficulties.
While possible, it’s highly recommended to go with a guide, especially for first-time trekkers. Guides provide safety, navigation, cultural insights, and assistance in case of emergencies.
Weather can change quickly in the mountains. Your guide will make decisions about route changes or delays based on safety conditions. Travel insurance that covers trip delays is recommended
No ATMs are available on the trekking route. Bring sufficient Nepali rupees in cash from Pokhara or Kathmandu for personal expenses like extra drinks, snacks, charging devices, or hot showers.
Most teahouses offer device charging for a small fee (usually 100-200 NPR per hour). Bringing a power bank is highly recommended as electricity can be unreliable.
Phone signal is available in most villages, though it may be weak at higher altitudes. Wi-Fi is available at some teahouses for a fee, but don’t expect reliable internet throughout the trek.
Yes, comprehensive travel insurance covering high-altitude trekking (up to 5,000m), emergency evacuation, and medical expenses is mandatory. Ensure your policy specifically covers helicopter rescue.

I especially want to thank the Bhanubhakta, who accompanied me throughout the entire trek. He was incredibly helpful, kind, and always made sure everyone was safe and comfortable. I truly appreciate his support and highly recommend Epic Trek to anyone planning a trekking adventure in Nepal!

The best of the best
