Manaslu Circuit Trek is an amazing adventure into the beautiful and scenic land of Nepal, located in the middle of the magnificent Himalayan mountains. Mount Manaslu is the seventh highest mountain in the world. The trek is a discovery of the treasures of the land of Manaslu, passing through picturesque river valleys, amazing canyons, and old villages populated by the tribes of the Tsumba and Nubri.
Not yet opened for tourists before 1992, the region of Manaslu offers an opportunity to explore a less crowded route than the most famous sites of Everest or Annapurna. The sudden changes of culture, scenery, vegetation, and wildlife will make your trek even more adventurous. All around the valley there are breathtaking views of Manaslu, adding more natural beauty to each and every day. Among other memorable experiences, one should definitely mention reaching Larkya La Pass at 5160m of altitude.
Manaslu Circuit Trek Route
The Manaslu circuit view trek is an absolutely amazing trip with a very good balance of drives, visits to villages, and exciting mountaineering in challenging conditions. It all begins with the flight to Kathmandu where you will spend one day preparing equipment and getting ready to go on the trip by sightseeing.
Next, it is time for a drive to Machha Khola. This is where you are supposed to start your hiking. At first, the trail runs along the river Budhi Gandaki, and you will see several settlements such as Jagat, Dyang, and Namrung. This way, you can walk along forest areas, use suspension bridges, and watch the change of views from green mountains to rocky alpine areas.
And as you continue ascending through the Manaslu Circuit trek route, you will come across a very important and beautiful village called Samagaon. You can take a rest here in order to acclimatize yourself before advancing to more challenging places like Samdo and Dharmasala, which mark the beginning of your adventure in the wilderness.
Your true test on the Manaslu Circuit trek route is reaching the top of Larkya La Pass at 5,160 meters. The ascent may be quite challenging, but once you reach its summit, you will get to witness the breathtaking scenery provided by the surrounding mountains. After enjoying this magnificent view, you will descend towards the forests in the direction of Bimthang and then finally towards Dharapani.
Who can join the Manaslu Circuit Trek
Manaslu Circuit trek is highly recommended for all individuals who have a decent fitness level and are looking for an adventurous trekking experience. No special skills for rock climbing or mountaineering are required, but you have to be prepared for the long trekking days and unpredictable weather conditions.
A beginner can still complete the Manaslu Circuit as long as they prepare through training beforehand. Training could involve doing regular walks, light hikes, and doing some type of cardio workout which will help build stamina. To be successful, you should be able to stay on your feet for 5-7 hours per day on trails that may be rough and rocky.
In recent years, one of the major changes is the increased flexibility with the regulations when it comes to trekking in the restricted zone of Manaslu. The biggest change for solo trekkers is that they can now join the Manaslu Circuit on an independent basis as long as they have made their booking through an official agency and obtained all of their necessary permits. A licensed guide will still be required, but having someone guide you on this trek is actually very beneficial because they will help you navigate the routes and provide safety along with ensuring you are properly equipped.
If you’re looking for a less-crowded and quieter alternative to some of the busier trekking routes in Nepal, this is definitely the trek for you as it is an incredible experience in itself because of its remote setting. When you have put together a great itinerary for trekking the Manaslu Circuit, with sufficient time for rest days and a positive attitude, you will find this to be an achievable trek for many adventurers.

It may be narrow at times, and even a bit rocky in places, but the walk is very picturesque and takes you past some truly stunning landscapes. Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 09: Trek from Samagaon to Samdo
The trek for today isn’t really all that long but since we are going up a little bit higher, it’s going to be quite a bit steeper. There will no longer be any trees around us; rather, you will see a very rugged landscape.
Look out for some yaks as they graze along the trail. We will come across some mani walls before reaching Samdo, which is very typical of a Tibetan village.

Day 10: Trek from Samdo to Dharmasala (also known as Larke Phedi)
It’s just another day to prepare ourselves for the pass crossing. We’ll be ascending through rough terrain with some rocky areas. Now, the thinning atmosphere is obvious, and so we will need to proceed slowly.
Before we reach Dharmasala (Larkya Phedi), we’ll have to pass by the abandoned Larkya Bazar. This area doesn’t offer anything fancy but is our camp base for the pass crossing. Tomorrow is an important day, so it would be best if we eat and rest early today.
Activity: 3-4 hours
Max. Altitude: 4460m./14,633ft. (Dharmasala)

Day 11: Trek from Dharmasala (4460m) over the Larkya La pass (5160m) to Bimthang (2400m)
Today is going to be a big challenge for us as we have to wake up early in the morning and cross the challenging Larkya La Pass via a very steep and difficult path with lots of snow at times, but what lies at the top is simply breathtaking – an amazing sunrise from Himalchuli and Mt. Manaslu.
The moment you make the high-five gesture at the summit, the downhill journey to Bimthang will begin. There is nothing better than having a meal at the base camp after climbing the pass. The scenery will just blow you away.
Activity: 8-9 hours
Max. Altitude: 5160m./16,929ft. (Larkya La Pass)
Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse
Day 12: Trek from Bimthang to Dharapani
It is always nice to move from such high altitudes and descend into the lower levels where you can see greenery all around yourself. Our route will take us past some wonderful forests and through some settlements called Karche and Tilije.
And if we visit at the time when it’s spring, you will definitely notice some blooming rhododendrons as we descend. At the end of our journey to Dharapani, we can feel the change in air – it becomes much richer.
Activity: 8-9 hours
Max. Altitude: 1860m./6,102ft. (Dharapani)
Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 13: Drive from Dharapani to Kathmandu
After two weeks of hiking in the mountains, now it’s time for a change. Today you will make your way back to Kathmandu by private vehicle, and during the ride, you will have a final opportunity to view the river valleys and magnificent mountains that you have been visiting.
Back in the city, it is time for a shower and perhaps even a beer to celebrate. Coming back to life in Kathmandu can be quite odd considering what you have been through, but it’s an excellent opportunity for self-reflection.

Trip Information
Difficulty Level of Manaslu Circuit View Trek
The Manaslu Circuit trek is considered to be moderately challenging trekking in Nepal. Although this trek does not require any technical skills, it requires strong physical health and mental strength. During the journey on the Manaslu Circuit trekking trail, you will walk for around 5 to 7 hours each day, and in some cases, your trekking time might exceed more than 7 hours a day.
Without a doubt, the most difficult thing about this Manaslu Circuit trek would be its altitude. When you hike along the Manaslu Circuit trekking route, you will gradually reach an altitude of more than 3,000 meters above sea level. When you reach the highest point of the Larkya La Pass (5,160 m), you need to ensure that you have enough stamina for this challenging trekking route.
Trail conditions add another level of difficulty to this trek as well. As you approach the pass, you’ll be dealing with rugged terrain, trails that are only wide enough for one person at times, and even snow-filled areas. The weather can change in an instant at such heights, making this trek more challenging. Manaslu Circuit Trek is quite a remote trekking route compared to the extremely popular routes, which means it has very limited facilities and the distances between the villages can sometimes be difficult.
However, with proper planning and assistance, Manaslu Circuit Trek is completed by all trekkers who undertake it. The trek can be completed by any beginner if he or she has been adequately trained, and for experienced hikers, it will become quite an exciting adventure with magnificent views.
Preparation for Manaslu Circuit Trek
Proper preparation is key in making sure that the Manaslu Circuit trekking adventure is safe and enjoyable. It would be best if you could begin preparing a few weeks prior to the date when you take your flight. The primary goal is to condition your body through exercise such as jogging, hiking, and cycling. Additionally, strength training exercises and stair climbing can help prepare your body for the constant ascents and descents.
It is recommended that you train until you are able to walk for many hours daily without difficulty. A few practice treks, complete with a small backpack, can greatly aid you in getting into Manaslu Circuit Trekking Itinerary.
One of the highest priorities for a successful trip on the Manaslu Circuit view trek is pack the correct equipment. Make sure you have proper trekking boots and multiple warm layers to change throughout your trek, and you can easily change your clothing if there is a temperature change while trekking through different elevations (it’s warm in the lowlands and then cold near Larkya La Pass, so you’ll need at least two different types of clothing).
In addition to packing your gear, be sure to prepare mentally for your trip. Many of the teahouses you will stay in will be very basic and located in remote parts of the Manaslu Circuit view trek. By being flexible and maintaining a positive attitude you are more likely to enjoy this wild part of the trek. Also, while traveling on the Manaslu Circuit trek be sure to have travel insurance for trekking at high-altitude, this is essential, too. If you stay hydrated, eat properly, and pay attention to your guide, you will have an amazing adventure trekking in the high Himalayas.
Why Choose a Guide and Porters?
Government Policy Compliance: One of the main reasons for hiring a guide or a porter is simply following the government policies in Nepal. According to some government policies in Nepal, a restricted area permit is needed for some specific places, so a trekking team must be hired to make sure that all requirements are met. In regions close to the open border, it is almost impossible to travel alone without any assistance.
Local Expertise: It is simply hard not to learn so much when a local expert accompanies you on the tour. They know an immense amount regarding the place, culture, and varying terrain conditions that may surprise you. You will receive all these invaluable bits of information about the Manaslu Region and its culture that cannot be found in any guide book. This makes your journey even more unique.
Navigation Assistance: Another issue that many travelers face when hiking is the lack of clear routes and difficulties with navigation at high altitudes. With the help of guides, this problem is solved quickly and effectively, and you do not have to worry about getting lost.
Altitude Acclimatization: The management of altitude can be described as the most challenging aspect of this trekking experience. Fortunately, guides have immense knowledge in this field, and will ensure that everything is done perfectly as far as acclimatization goes. It is quite important to note that their expert guidance and tips on how to acclimatize to altitude helps one avoid altitude sickness entirely.
Comfort and Enjoyment: The use of porters is very important, since they handle your luggage for the whole period of the trek. Therefore, you are spared the pain of having to carry a heavy pack the entire time. This makes things so much easier, because you can enjoy the scenery around you without the need to worrying about the heavy pack you are supposed to carry.
Safety and emergency support: In the end, it all comes down to peace of mind. The guides are well versed in first aid and mountain rescue, which means that should anything go wrong, such as altitude sickness or an unexpected injury, they will be able to respond promptly. Local contacts are also invaluable in these situations, helping to arrange fast help from the nearest village or even a helicopter evacuation if necessary. This kind of safety net simply allows you to enjoy your hike without worrying about the worst-case scenarios.
Language and Communication
The Manaslu Circuit trekking trail can be quite social at the lower elevations, but it becomes slightly less conversational as you climb up. When it comes to the larger towns on your itinerary, such as Kathmandu, the majority of people have at least basic to advanced knowledge of the English language, especially guides, hotel receptionists, and teahouse owners, which makes your initial interactions quite enjoyable during your Manaslu Circuit trekking experience.
As you continue to trek, you will encounter the beautiful villages that combine the cultures of the Gurungs and Tibetans, where people communicate using either Nepali or regional languages. Knowing just a few basic Nepali words such as “Namaste” (greeting) and “Dhanyabad” (thank you) will work wonders.
Lastly, I strongly recommend hiring a licensed guide if you are planning to trek the Manaslu Circuit. They can help out with translating or assisting you with understanding the local culture in the more remote villages where English isn’t very prevalent.
Mobile network, internet & charging facilities
The mobile network availability along the Manaslu Circuit Trek route is possible although not consistent. While moving along the lower areas such as Machha Khola, Jagat, and Namrung, you may be able to connect to some network service providers like NTC and Ncell. Nevertheless, as you climb higher while following the Manaslu Circuit Trekking Itinerary, you will find no connection.
Internet facility in Nepal is scarce as far as the trekking is concerned. While some teahouses provide internet through Wi-Fi connectivity, it is expensive and unreliable. It is therefore advisable to notify friends and family members regarding poor internet connectivity on the trail in advance.
Most of the teahouses on the Manaslu Circuit Trekking Route offer charging facilities. You may have to incur some fees for charging your device. The cost increases as you climb higher owing to the scarcity of electricity sources.
It is always prudent to take a power bank or a solar charger during the Manaslu Circuit Trek because they will enable you to charge your device without relying much on electricity from the teahouse.
Trip Extension on Manaslu Circuit Trek
The good news about this Manaslu circuit is that there are some exciting side tours you can go on and make your trip extra special. These side tours are particularly exciting because not only do they allow you to acclimatize, but you get to experience areas that many people would otherwise miss.
The most exciting side tour to take during the Manaslu circuit trek is the one where you go to Manaslu Base Camp from Samagaon. There, you will enjoy magnificent sights of Mt. Manaslu and its glaciers. Another beautiful place that you should visit while trekking is the Pungyen Gompa which is a monastery surrounded by amazing mountains.
If you’re spending some time at Samdo, you can do a small trek towards the Tibetan border. It is a rare cultural adventure with views of the valley that are simply huge. The detours are not only about the pictures, but they’re also quite useful when it comes to acclimatizing to the altitude. After finishing the main trekking loop, many people even prolong the trip by adding the Annapurna area via Dharapani. This is an excellent option to tailor your Manaslu Circuit trek to your available time and energy!
Health and safety on Manaslu Circuit Trek
While trekking the Manaslu Circuit Trekking Itinerary, there is one thing that always needs to be kept in mind, and that is your health and safety. Most importantly, you have to consider the high altitude since the itinerary will eventually take you to places where the altitude exceeds 5,000 meters. This is serious business!
Drinking enough water and eating healthy meals will ensure that you do not feel exhausted while trekking. I would suggest avoiding alcohol, especially when you reach high altitudes because it increases the chance of altitude sickness. Listen carefully to what your body is trying to tell you. If you experience symptoms like headaches, dizziness, or nausea, make sure you inform your guide right away.
The route in general may not be very appealing either. There are rocky stretches, steep sections, and places that become dangerously slippery during wet weather near the passes. Proper hiking boots and care to watch your steps make all the difference in such situations. Of course, guided treks, which are essential for your well-being and safety, require that you obtain the necessary permits. It’s that simple! Just bring your clothing and a basic first-aid kit, and you’ll have an incredible trek on the Manaslu Circuit view trek!
Don’t on the Trip
There are several guidelines that must be followed by the visitors during the Manaslu Circuit Trek. First, do not try to speed up your pace. Proper acclimatization is considered as one of the crucial components of the Manaslu Circuit Trekking Itinerary, and excessive speed may cause altitude sickness.
Alcohol consumption is prohibited during the Manaslu Circuit Trek. It may negatively affect acclimatization processes and increase dehydration. Moreover, smoking should be minimized.
Follow the recommendations provided by the guide. Guides know the route well and will provide you with all the necessary information concerning the conditions and weather.
It is advisable to respect local culture and traditions when exploring the Manaslu Circuit Trek. Wear traditional clothes in order to avoid offense. Ask for permission to take photos of people.
Do not litter during the Manaslu Circuit Trek View. It is necessary to maintain cleanliness and purity of the area.
Last but not least, do not rely totally on technologies. There is no Internet connection and power supply on the route, which makes it essential to switch off from electronic devices and enjoy the trek.
Visa and Permits Requirement
As you prepare for the Manaslu Circuit Trekking adventure, you will need to apply for the Nepal tourist visa and the trekking permit. Many travelers tend to obtain their visas on arrival, as it is an easy and quick process. You may also choose to acquire your visa before traveling through embassies, especially if you fall into the category of those who prefer to plan their travel in advance. It is a very simple process, all you require is your valid passport, two passport size photographs, and the visa fee based on the duration of your stay.
The Manaslu region is classified as a restricted region, hence making it imperative to secure some permits. The most significant permit required when trekking to the Manaslu region is the Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (RAP). As much as the rules have been liberalized and permit independent travelers from seeking the services of a trekking agency, the process must go through a registered trekking agency.
In addition to this, you will require the permit for the Manaslu Conservation Area (MCAP) and Annapurna Conservation Area (ACAP). This is due to the reason that the Manaslu Circuit Trek route eventually falls under the Annapurna region after crossing the Larkya La Pass point.

At times, you will require the TIMS card, based on the current rules this season. Typically, everything will be handled by us “Epic Trek Nepal“, making things much easier for you. Being organized with all of your paperwork simply means that you will not have to worry about the legalities during your Manaslu Circuit view trek experience.
Travel Insurance
Travel insurance is vital for the Manaslu Circuit Trek. The Manaslu Circuit Trek goes through remote areas that have scarce medical facilities. Insurance covers financial aspects to make you feel safe on the whole journey.
High-altitude trekking is the most crucial aspect to be covered by the insurance policy, preferably at an elevation of up to 5,500 meters. Manaslu Circuit Trekking Itinerary includes passing Larkya La Pass that is more than 5,000 meters high. You might need to be evacuated using an air ambulance due to altitude sickness or some injuries, and this can be very costly if you do not have the insurance.
In addition, the insurance must provide you with coverage such as medical aid, emergency helicopter, rescue trip cancellation, delay, and stolen or lost . Sometimes weather changes and flight delays can affect your travel plans in Nepal, and insurance is valuable.
While you will have your guide and trekking agency to help you out during an emergency situation, having travel insurance will ensure you receive prompt help without any hassle and expenses.
Traveling along the Manaslu Circuit Trek is exciting, but always remember that certain risks are involved. Thus, purchasing travel insurance before starting the trekking route can be useful.
