Everest Base Camp Short Trek Route
The Everest Base Camp Short Trek follow like the regular Everest Base Camp Trek with slight changes in the itinerary. Most part of the trek follow the same route, but there is always something really new and exciting about this trek.
Your adventure starts with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, which is one of the dangerous and thrilling experience you get on the flight. As soon as you arrive, you will begin your trek down toward Phakding and then further to Monjo.
On the second day, you will reach Namche Bazaar, one of the main cities of the Khumbu region. From there you will hike toward the Everest Viewpoint, where you will be able to see the stunning view of Mount Everest.
The trek continues to Pangboche on the third day, with old monasteries and yak farms on the route. On day four, one heads towards Thukla, from where onwards the entire landscape becomes much starker and more dramatic.
The most exciting part is day five, with one passing through Gorakshep and reaching the Everest Base Camp before heading back to Gorakshep again. Believe me, it is not easy to describe the excitement of actually standing at an altitude of 5,364 meters in words.
The return leg of the trek passes through Pheriche, Namche, and eventually reaches Lukla from where a flight takes one to Kathmandu on day nine.

From there you will have the spectacular view of Mount Ama Dablam from the top of the monastery. Also, do not miss an opportunity to spend some time there and feel the peaceful and spiritual atmosphere of the place.
Pangboche Village is very interesting in its own way as well. It is one of the oldest Sherpa settlements in the region. The path gets quite different today because after leaving the lush valleys below, you will be walking through spectacular high-altitude terrain. Plants and trees become less common; the only animal you are likely to encounter is the yak.
The trek starts from Pangboche and goes through Dingboche, which is essentially a large valley offering stunning sights of two magnificent mountains – Island Peak and the southern face of Mount Lhotse.
Many trekkers like spending a while in Dingboche because it serves as the ideal place for taking tea and snacks before resuming their journey toward Thukla.

Max. Altitude: 4620m./15,157ft.
Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5: Thukla to Everest base Camp via Gorakshep and Back
This is the one day that all trekkers on the Everest Base Camp Short Trek have been looking forward to. Early in the morning, you leave Thukla and start climbing up steeply to the Thukla Pass Memorial, which is a series of stone cairns dedicated to climbers who died on Mount Everest.
After leaving the pass, you will be hiking down the moraine trail passing through Khumbu Glacier all the way to Gorakshep, just ahead of the base camp. You will have a brief stop here, and then it’s onward to the last part of the journey to reach Everest Base Camp at an elevation of 5,364 meters. It’s rough rocky path, chilly air, and each step feels very heavy. When you make it there and get to view the fluttering prayer flags with Mount Everest in the back, nothing else can describe that feelings.
You spend some time around the base camp before heading back to Gorakshep. The descent takes much less time, yet you still have to be careful when stepping over all these loose stones. This night you will be staying in Gorakshep, the highest sleeping spot during your whole trekking journey.
Activity: Trek (7 to 8 hours)
Max. Altitude: 5364m./17,598ft.

Day 6: Gorakshep to Pheriche
A sunrise hike to Kala Patthar, if you choose to do it, will provide you with stunning views of Mt. Everest. Climbing Kala Patthar at the height of 5,545 meters guarantees you not only the best sunrise views of Mt. Everest, but also extremely close views of the peak.
After packing your gear up in Gorakshep, you descend towards Pheriche through Lobuche. Descending down to a lower altitude brings you immediate relief from the previous day, as breathing becomes more comfortable with each 100 meters you descend.
The night in Pheriche promises to be exceptionally peaceful after a challenging day of the entire short trip to Mt. Everest.
Activity: Trek (6 to 7 hours)
Max. Altitude: 5545m./18,192ft.
Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation: Tea house
Day 7: Pheriche to Namche Bazaar
Today you will retrace your steps down from Dingboche to Namche Bazaar. Passing by Pangboche and Tengboche will no doubt be a completely different experiencen.
As you go further, you will notice the denes forest and lush green forest. You will hear the birds instead of the complete silence of the high altitude. Many trekkers experience some nostalgia while coming down and watching the gigantic mountains gradually move away behind you. Returning to Namche will feel just like coming home again.
Everything in this place is warm, welcoming, and inviting, making you feel very comfortable and relaxed after days of harsh weather and difficult conditions. Namche teahouses, bakeries, and market streets give you this sense of coming back home after an adventure. You should definitely indulge yourself with a nice meal, a good shower, and some sleep before heading for your last stage.

Day 8: Namche to Lukla
This will be your last trekking day, and you will have mixed feelings. As usual, you will start very early from Namche, and go down towards Lukla via Phakding and Monjo. You will walk along the Dudh Koshi River, and cross its bridges once again, as well as take some rest on the bridges taking a last look at the mountains.
Upon arriving to Lukla, you can consider the trek finished. This little city really gets alive after the evening when the trekkers who successfully completed their journeys meet and drink together, enjoying the hot local food. Don’t hesitate to have fun with other tourists and pack your bags for a very early return flight to Kathmandu.

On the mountain flight, you will get to see the last amazing aerial scenery of the Himalayas—the perfect goodbye to the mountain ranges which have always stayed close to you during your adventure.
Flight lasts 35 minutes and lands in Tribhuvan International Airport, where you will suddenly feel the difference between mountain and city life – the noise, hustle, bustle of streets, warm air, etc. After landing at Tribhuvan International Airport, a representative of your travel company meets you and drop you at the hotel.
The rest of the day you spend on your own. Feel free to explore the city of Kathmandu, buy some souvenirs, visit local restaurants and cafes, or simply relax after the trekking and enjoy the atmosphere of the city.

How difficult is the Everest Base Camp Short Trek
The Everest Base Camp Short trek is considered more difficult than normal Everest Base Camp Trek because trekkers need to walk more than standard Ebc trek and even without acclimatization day. The main challenge on this trail will not be the route conditions but it’s the altitude.
Once the altitude becomes higher, the lack of oxygen becomes more noticeable, causing such things as headaches, exhaustion, and even shortness of breath that are very common near Namche Bazaar and above.
Walking duration varies between 6 to 8 hours per day, on average. Trails are surprisingly very well-constructed and are easy to trace throughout the Khumbu region. You would face quite a few climbs and descents during the hike. But there is nothing technical about the trails, and no special gear is needed.
You will need a good fitness level to walk through these trails in every season. Just do some exercise prior to your trip, and you can enjoy the Short Everest Trek comfortably.
Preparation for Everest Base Camp Short Trek

Focus on cardiovascular exercise such as hiking, running, biking or simply running uphill will be very useful along with strength training for your leg.
Remember to pack lightly. Only keep essential items inside your daypack like food, water, a raincoat, and an extra warm piece of clothing. The porters provided by the trekking agency take care of all the other heavy items needed. Additionally, getting yourself a good pair of trekking shoes (used one) is very important.

During the first part of the Everest Base Camp Short trek, the signal will be available in most villages like Lukla, Phakding, Namche and Tengboche. But there might still be some difficulties getting powerful signals. After ascending more, the signal will be completely disappeared and will be out of signal for the rest of the trek.

Some hotel may have a surprisingly fast Wi-Fi, but there is other which can be frustratingly slow, especially at high altitude. The cost of Wi-Fi in teahouses is not free, but it should only take you between 200 to 500 Nepalese Rupee.
Recharging of devices is possible in teahouses, but they also charge per device. If you have, carry a portable power bank because electricity will become less reliable as soon as you ascend to greater heights.
