Arrival in Kathmandu
Your trekking adventure begins in the bustling city of Kathmandu, which is honestly a whirlwind experience, but in the best possible way. There is just so much history, culture, and an energy about the place that is hard to explain. Once you arrive in the airport, we will pick you up and get you settled in your hotel. If you’re not exhausted from your flight, go out and explore the streets of Thamel. It is an excellent place to grab a cup of coffee and do some shopping. In the evening, we will hold a brief meeting to go over the itinerary for the trek and make sure your equipment is in order.

Day 02:
Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (822m / 2696ft)
Have your breakfast because today is going to be an early start as we drive to Pokhara. While the 6-8 hour drive is not exactly what you want to do, the scenery is lovely as we go through the rivers and the terraced hillsides. You will definitely feel the air clearing as we get closer to Pokhara. When we arrive, the atmosphere is much more laid-back than what we experienced in Kathmandu. In the evening, go for a walk along the lake, it is the perfect place to grab your dinner while taking in the view.

Drive from Pokhara to Sikles (1980m/6496ft)
Today, we’re going up to Sikles. It’s one of the biggest Gurung villages in the area, and it has a bit of a old feel to it. The drive up through the hills is lovely, though the roads can be a bit bumpy in some places. When you arrive, the welcome from the locals is something else. You really get a feel for the Gurung way of life, and, depending on the weather, some really stunning views of the surrounding mountains to boot.

Today, we actually start the trek. We’re off to Hugu Goth. It’s not a really hard day’s work, mainly because we’re going through some beautiful forests and some open countryside. Hugu Goth itself is basically just a quiet spot where some animals graze. It’s very peaceful, just the sounds of nature. It’s the kind of place where you can really rest peacefully before the big day tomorrow.

Now this is the day you’ve all been waiting for. We are going to hike to Kapuche Lake and back to Sikles. And yes, Kapuche Lake is actually considered one of the lowest glacial lakes in the world. The hike is not too difficult, and the scenery is very nice. We will pass through some very nice alpine meadows and then suddenly come across this beautiful blue water nestled right at the foot of these massive snow-capped peaks. It is a truly breathtaking sight. After taking all the photos for your social media following back home, we will head back down the mountain all the way back to Sikles for the night.

Well, after a leisurely morning and breakfast in the village, it is time to head back to civilization and a possible hot shower. We will drive back to Pokhara and spend the rest of the day doing whatever you want. You could take a ride out on Phewa Lake or find a nice little café and hang out for a while. The choice is yours. You have certainly earned a little R&R after the hike.

Once we get back to Kathmandu, it’s your last opportunity to do some shopping or visit that one temple we never had time to visit on Day 1. Typically, we have a farewell dinner to celebrate making it to the lake and back.

두발로 걷는 기쁨, 풍경은 덤!
4윌말에서 5월초순의 히말라야 방문은 오랫동안 기다려온 버킷리스트 중 하나였다. 두 발로 걸어서 갈 수 있는 건강과 행운이 함께하길 기대하며 발걸음을 떼었다. 비록 5월초 답지않게 이상 기후로 인하여 비가 자주 내렸으나, 걷는 내내 볼수 있었던 무리지은 진달래꽃 군락들은 피곤한 발걸음에 큰 위안이 되었다. 10미터가 넘는 진달래 나무라니..., 네팔의 국화라고 한다. 난생 처음보는 히말라야에 핀 진달래의 크고 화려한 꽃송이들은 꿈 속에서도 나올 듯 하다. 이곳의 트레킹은 목적지를 의식할 수록 힘들어 지는 것 같다. 모든 것을 내려 놓는 심정으로 한걸음 한걸음 뚜벅 뚜벅 앞으로 나아가야 했다. 마치 이곳의 무심한 야크처럼 말이다. 드디어 베이스 캠프 롯지에 도착하여 피곤함을 뒤로 한채 내일의 에베레스트 산맥 파노라마를 고대하며 잠을 청하였다. 새벽 3시에 출발 전망 피크를 향하여 영하의 날씨 속을 2시간 가량 내달렸다. 기대했던 일출은 짙은 운무로 보기는 어려웠지만 장엄하고도 숨막히는 에베레스트 산맥이 병풍처럼 힐끗힐끗 그 모습을 나타내곤 하였다. 이를 배경으로 사진 한 컷 '찰칵'으로 베이스캠프 여정을 마치고 솔루쿰부 지역인 준베시를 거쳐 부근의 티벳 불교 사원 '툽텐 촐링' 사원을 둘러보고 이 주변에 집단으로 살고 있는 셰르파 사람들과 마을을 둘러 볼수 있었다. 이들 산골 사람들의 순수함과 성실함은 어쩌면 자연에 순응하며 종교와 함께 하는 삶에서 나오는 것일지도 모른다. 이번 여정을 무사히 마칠 수 있게 도움을 준 Mr. Bhanu와 포터에게 심심한 감사를 전합니다. 다음에는 다른 코스를 방문할 생각이다. 추천!!

쿰부 히말라야 트래킹 17일간을 계획한대로 우능한 가이드와 포터의 도움으로 잘 마무리 하고, 낭탕밸리 트래킹 8일간도 같은 가이드로 함게 할수 있어서 좋았습니다. 내년 안나푸르나 서킷 트래킹도 같이 가이드와 좋은시간 기대해 봅니다.

지난3.31~4.28까지 쿰푸히말라야.랑탕벨리트레킹을 남편과함께 다녀왔습니다. 긴 시간동안 함께해준 대표이신 바누사장님과 포터분께 진심으로 감사드립니다. 에이전시 대표님께서 직접 가이드 한다고해서 좀 당황했는데 젊은(28세)대표님께서 매사 열정적이고 차분하게 대처하는것을보고 신뢰가 가고 믿음직스러웠습니다. 3패스.3리.2비씨.랑탕벨리를 무사히 마칠수 있었던것은 모두 대표님과 포터 덕분이었습니다. 특히 대표님은 한국에 6년동안 거주해서 한국말에 능통하고 한국 문화와 한국인의성향에 대해서 이해도가 아주 높았습니다. 나이많은 우리 부부를 늘 배려하고 관심갖고 대해줘서 고마웠습니다. 다시 네팔에 가게 된다면 꼭 바누대표님과 함께 할 겁니다. 에어전시가 날마다 번창하기를 바라며.. 고맙고 감사했습니다.

Epic Trek의 Yuba와 함께한 여행은 이번이 두 번째였습니다. 15년이 넘는 시간 동안 늘 가이드와 함께 여행해 왔지만, Yuba는 제가 만나본 가이드들 가운데 단연 최고라고 말할 수 있습니다. 이번 여정에서는 Yuba와 함께 푼힐과 마르디 히말을 다녀왔습니다. 이전에 ABC와 랑탕도 걸어보았지만, 솔직히 말해 마르디 히말은 그 모든 기억을 넘어설 만큼 특별했습니다. 만약 같은 길을 두 번 갈 수 있다면, 저는 주저 없이 다시 마르디 히말을 선택할 것 같습니다. Yuba가 데려가 주는 롯지에는 늘 공통점이 있습니다. 가장 높은 곳, 그리고 가장 아름다운 풍경을 품은 자리라는 점입니다. 그에게 모든 것을 맡기고 그저 따라가기만 하면, 어느새 가장 좋은 장면들 속에 서 있는 저를 발견하게 됩니다. 그는 또한 최고의 사진가이기도 합니다. 매서운 추위 속의 일출이든, 숨 막히게 아름다운 일몰이든, 잠시 휴대폰을 맡기기만 하면 제가 가질 수 있는 가장 완벽한 순간을 사진으로 남겨줍니다. Yuba에게 고마운 일은 참 많지만, 그중에서도 가장 마음 깊이 감사한 순간이 있습니다. 제가 가장 힘들어하던 시간에도 그는 저를 포기하지 않았습니다. 몇 시간이 걸려도 말없이 기다려주었고, 결국 제가 정상에 설 수 있도록 끝까지 함께해 주었습니다. 그 순간만큼은 단순한 가이드가 아니라, 진심으로 사람을 믿고 응원해 주는 동반자였습니다.
