Trip Overview

The Tarebhir Hike is a shorter hike located near Kathmandu, known specifically for the impressive cliff viewpoint from which the get its name. This hike provides a relatively easy escape into Nepal’s hills for visitors who wish to get some hiking experience without committing to a full hiking program.

Tarebhir lies within the hills surrounding the Kathmandu Valley, located in a region covered by pine forests common to the mid-hill regions around Kathmandu. The Tarebhir Hike is popular because it provides an accessible opportunity to hike near Kathmandu. This trek does not attract visitors because of distance or elevation gain but simply by convenience.

Most tourists taking this hike want a half-day or full-day hike they can incorporate around their stay in Kathmandu after returning from another trek or spending a limited amount of time there on vacation. The highlight of the Tarebhir Hike is visiting a viewpoint situated on a cliff face offering panoramic vistas above the valley and the nearby hills. The location represents a less crowded option compared to several viewpoints in the vicinity of Kathmandu.

For any tourist trying to find a convenient hiking destination near Kathmandu that does not require obtaining hiking permits, acclimatizing to high altitudes, or making plans, our Tarebhir Hike presents a realistic choice.

What Can You See During Tarebhir Hike?

The number of views you will get to see on the Tarebhir Hike is absolutely mind blowing. One of the main rewards of the Tarebhir hike is the view from the top. On a clear day, the Tarebhir viewpoint reveals the full panoramic view of the Himalayan range which includes the Ganesh, Langtang and Jugal ranges. However, visibility depend heavily on the season and climate conditions, which means that viewing the mountains can never be fully guaranteed. Choosing Autumn and springtime tend to bring clearer skies than summer.

In addition to distant mountains, hikers will also enjoy expansive views over the entire valley. It gives a distinct perspective to the views of the valley compared to the viewpoints nearer to Kathmandu City. Most of the time the hike follows the forest path, especially when the track reaches the Shivapuri National Park region, making much of the trail course cool and shady under pine woods for a reasonable time.

Lower stretches cross the local village areas and agricultural lands, allowing travelers to see daily rural life in these areas outside Kathmandu Valley. Terraced farms, village houses, and locals can be seen moving around. When it comes to sunrise/sunset at the top of the trail, remember that this is done as a day hike and therefore if viewing the sunrise/sunset at Tarebhir is an important part of your experience then you should discuss your dates with us.

Itinerary of Tarebhir Hike

Morning Pickup and Journey to Jagdol

The hike will begin with a morning pickup in your hotel. The drive journey to the starting point of the hiking will take around 30 to 45 minutes and it will provide enough time for you to purchase snacks or water from one of the small stores in Jagdol.

Beginning of the Hike

The beginning of the hiking starts gently from the town of Jagdol and passes through the nearby settlements and agricultural lands and enters the forest environment. In this part of the hiking route, the gradient of the path will be more moderate than in later stages.

As the trek progresses further, the trail goes into a forested zone, which is similar to the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park region, with pine forests covering the majority of the walk.

Ascent to Tarebhir

After progressing for 1.5 hour there will be the last climb before reaching Tarebhir. It will be the most difficult climb of the hike; however, the landscape will begin to open and reveal itself since it will be the steepest one due to the ascent towards the ridges.

Viewpoint at Tarebhir

Upon arrival at Tarebhir, it becomes clear that why this is the best viewpoint. At the cliff-top viewpoint, you get an extensive view of the Kathmandu Valley, with Himalayan mountains seen on a clear day. This is the opportunity to have some rest, take pictures and soak in the scenery before going to the resort for lunch.’

Lunch

After viewing, you will have lunch in a resort which provides an amazing view of the entire Kathmandu valley below while you enjoy your lunch.

Descend back down to Jagdol

From here onwards, you descend back to Jagdol from where you started and follow same path, only in reverse. The descent is faster compared to ascent but still requires firm feet in certain rock portions. After descending to Jagdol, you take off in a private vehicle back to Kathmandu to end your hike.

Since the starting time of the tour may differ depending upon individual groups and seasons, we would be able to provide you with an exact itinerary once you book this tour package.

Trip Information

Difficult Level of Tarebhir Hike

Tarebhir Hike is classified as a moderate difficulty hike than hard difficulty due to factors including shorter duration, low technicality, and low altitude compared to other hiking opportunities within Nepal. However, while moderate difficulty, this hike does not involve constant flat walking – there are some aspects worth recognizing ahead of planning.

Is it beginner-friendly? For the most part, yes. People who hike this trail are often new to hiking or do not have any other experience. But being beginner-friendly does not imply that it’s easy, you still have to walk uphill for quite some time.

Uphill/downhill sections: The route to Jagdol leads gradually up to the Tarebhir viewpoint, where elevation gain occurs both along the forest trail and through the ridgeline. There are some relatively easy sections through farmlands and villages as well as steeper parts nearer the ridge. The way back is similar to the way up but, of course, going down makes it easier on your lungs but harder on your knees.

Kathmandu Return: After completing the trek and having lunch at Tarebhir, you make your way down to Jagdol, where the very same vehicle will pick them up and take them back into Kathmandu.

As the whole experience is done as a one-day trek with the private transportation at both ends of the tour, it becomes a good choice for those travelers who would like to go on a hike near Kathmandu. We will be happy to help you coordinate the pick-up and return to match your schedule if you have any.

Best Time for Tarebhir Hike

Spring (March to May)

Spring is a good season for Tarebhir Hike as days are relatively warmer compared to winters, skies are relatively clear compared to winters and there are beautiful blossoms of rhododendrons in the wooded parts of the trek. Visibility of the Himalayas from Tarebhir viewpoint is one of the best during this season, since visibility improves as we go towards late spring.

Autumn (September to November)

Autumn is often rated as the best time to go on the hike due to favorable weather conditions. The sky will be the clearest during autumn, offering a chance for a view of the mountains from Tarebhir.

Monsoon (June to August)

Monsoon is the season of rainfall in Kathmandu, as it rains regularly in the hills. The trails in wooded areas can be slippery especially the parts close to the ridge due to rain. It is not advisable to go to the Tarebhir Hike during monsoon because visibility of the mountains is also very low due to the clouds.

Winter (December to February)

The mornings will be cold, particularly at the top of the ridge, so warmer clothing should be considered, but winter will provide excellent visibility of valleys and mountains.

Perfect KTM day tour I had a wonderful experience with Epic trek for my Kathmandu day tour, and our group was genuinely satisfied with the entire service from beginning to end. Everything was very well organized, and the communication before and during the tour was clear and professional. Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and very attentive, and he explained the history, culture, and significance of each place in a way that made the experience much more interesting and enjoyable. The itinerary was also well planned, so we were able to visit the main attractions without feeling rushed, while still having enough time to explore and take photos. I especially appreciated how flexible and accommodating the team was whenever we had questions or needed a little extra time at a certain location. The transportation was comfortable, the schedule was managed efficiently, and overall the whole day felt smooth and stress-free. It was a great way to experience Kathmandu in a short amount of time, and I felt that the service was well worth the price. I would definitely recommend this tour company to anyone visiting Kathmandu, especially if you want a reliable, comfortable, and enjoyable day tour with a friendly and professional team. I would be very happy to use their service again in the future!

The joy of walking on two feet, the scenery is dumb! A visit to the Himalayas in early May at 4 Willmal was one of the long-awaited bucket lists. He took steps hoping that both health and luck could walk along. Although it rained frequently in early May due to the unpleasant weather, the cluster that could be seen throughout the walk was a great consolation for the tired footsteps of the dandelions. More than 10 meters tall are called the national trees of Nepal. For the first time in the Himalayas, the large and colourful flower feathers of the Himalayas seem to emerge in a dream. Trekking here seems to be more difficult as you become aware of your destination. With a sense of putting everything down, I had to step one step and move forward. Like the careless jacks here. Finally arrived at the Base Camp Lodge and fell asleep in the expectation of tomorrow's Everest panorama. At 3 o'clock in the morning, we left for approximately two hours to reach the view peak. The sunrise expected was difficult to see in a dark shade, but the magnificent and breathtaking Mount Everest mountain ranges showed a wind-like look. After completing the base camp trip with a cut 'Chalkock' photographed on the background, we travelled through Shambeshi, the area of Solunabou, and visited the nearby Tibetan Buddhist temple 'Keten Kuling' to see the sherpa people and the village that lived as a group around it. The purity and integrity of these mountainous people may come from a life of conformity to nature and religion. He helped us complete this journey safely. Mr. Thank you very much to Bhanu and Porter. Next I think to visit another course. Recommended!!

In any situation, you are a superb guide and representative. From March 31 to April 28, I visited Bangfujimalaja with my husband. Thank you very much to Mr. Banuza and Mr. Porter who have been together for a long time. I was a little embarrassed by the agency's representative being guided directly, but the young 28-year-old representative saw how he dealt with the show passionately and calmly. I was able to finish Langtang Belly safely thanks to you and Porter. In particular, he has lived in Korea for six years and is well-known in Korean and has a very good understanding of Korean culture and Korean orientation. Thank you for always caring and caring about our elderly couple. If you go back to Nepal, you will be with Mr. Banu. I hope the air season flourishes every day. Thank you. Thank you.
